Human rights lawyer and social activist Rutuparna Mohanty is the fourth daughter of freedom fighter followers of Mahatma Gandhi. From her childhood she learned that she lived in a society “where women are treated as secondary citizens, where in every five minutes a woman is either assaulted or abused and exploited, where women are grossly deprived of their participation in the socioeconomic and political floors, and where women have ... no voice against the violation of their human rights.” To support women standing up to injustice, Mohanty began working with nonprofits and became the secretary of Sanjeevani, a large organization in her state of Orissa. Maa Ghara Foundation starts Women Peacemaker Award from 2014

For the first time in Odisha, Maa Ghara Foundation Trust (MGBT) launched a National level Award programme as “Maa Ghara Women Peace maker Award” as an initiative aimed at encouraging women’s participation in conflict resolution in Odisha. Under the leadership of Maa Ghara Managing Trustee Rutuparna Mohanty, every year Maa Ghara Foundation awarded a cash prize of Rs 50,000 along with a citation and a trophy to the social reformer, who is working for the empowerment of women on the occasion of the Mother’s Day. The Foundation is asking for nominations across India. The women working on “conflict resolution and peacemaking” are eligible for peace maker award. A 15-member panel is short listing five candidates; the final selection is always decided by the jury committee.

Human rights lawyer and social activist Rutuparna Mohanty talk about importance of Grama Sabha, power of common people in Panchayati Raj institutions. Speaking in a occasion Mohanty said, Grama Sabha or palli sabha will remain in highest position in future. This is a great example of Grama Sabha that the dongria kondh of niyamgiri hills have won a heroic victory against mining giant Vedanta. She further stated that around 3 to 4 crore funds will come to each panchayat in every year. It can possible to utilize that money for empowerment of women, to provide self-employment to unemployed youth, if common people will participate in the grama sabha, fight for their rights.
